Pakistan’s fate was sealed with their lacklustre performance in the T20 World Cup 2024, which included losses in their first two group-stage matches against the USA and India. They went on to win over Canada and Ireland, however they were unable to advance to the next round of the competition.
Following his comments that the team needed radical reorganisation equivalent to open heart surgery, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi took a huge step and removed selectors Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq.
Wahab responded to the development later that day in a lengthy social media post, saying that although he had a lot to say, he didn’t want to get into a heated argument involving accusations.

In the same tweet, he expressed his wish that Pakistanis, especially the country’s supporters, would realise that he worked hard and devoted himself to improving Pakistani cricket during his term in office, showing a sincere admiration for the game. Along with saying that it was an honour to be a member of the seven-person selection panel, he also emphasised that decisions about selection were made collaboratively and that everyone shared accountability for them.
Moreover, he expressed that it was an immense privilege to support head coach Gary Kirsten and the coaching staff, and he was certain that their game plans would lead the squad to long-term success. In closing, he conveyed his genuine hopes for the team’s continued success.
