Wanindu Hasaranga, a star all-rounder for Sri Lanka, will miss the rest of the India series. For the second ODI in Colombo, Jeffrey Vandersay entered the playing XI in lieu of the 27-year-old, who is sidelined due to a hamstring ailment. The playing XI has also lost Mohamed Shiraz, who debuted in the opening ODI of the series. He was replaced in the side by Kamindu Mendis.
After winning the toss, Sri Lanka decided to bat first. The first ODI’s surface slowed down towards the finish, which may have been the reason skipper Charith Asalanka preferred to bat first. He disclosed during the toss that they would bat first to take advantage of the surface’s resemblance to the one used in the first ODI.
“We’re going to bat first. Pitch appears just as it did yesterday. Not much is altered. I want to play the same game that I did before. Jeffrey Vandersay and Kamindu Mendis replace Wanindu Hasaranga and Mohamed Shiraz. We need that one victory now, Asalanka said after winning the toss. “Last game was definitely a lift,” she said.
Once again, Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, showed no concern about bowling first. In order to prepare the team for the next Champions Trophy, he anticipates that the players will play freely and seize the opportunity. He went on to say that in order to produce a positive outcome and anticipate a stronger effort in the second ODI, the players must adjust to the circumstances properly.
“It’s alright (having to pursue again); we are aware of what to anticipate from our pursuit. It must be. You can’t always go out and play in the same style and with the same attitude. You have to adjust to the circumstances before you may play freely.
