Due to a side strain, Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar will not play in the forthcoming Twenty20 International series against New Zealand. On January 11, while bowling in the opening ODI at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara, Washington Sundar complained of severe lower rib pain. After that, he had scans and a face-to-face appointment with a doctor.
After a medical evaluation, Washington Sundar was found to have a side strain and was told to rest for a few days.
After that, he will go to the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) for additional injury care and rehabilitation. In the T20I squad, leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has been selected to take his spot. In addition, middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer has been selected to the team for the first three Twenty20 Internationals to replace injured Tilak Varma.
Regarding Tilak Varma, the child is presently undergoing therapy while being closely monitored by the BCCI medical staff. Due to the incomplete healing of the wound surrounding his groin, the 23-year-old has not yet resumed physical exercise. The Board did, however, affirm that whenever Tilak resumes skill-based activities, more information regarding his injuries will be released.
