With numerous moments capturing attention, the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 got off to a great start in Karachi. But when Glenn Phillips made a spectacular one-handed catch to eliminate Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan, it rocked both the commentary panel and the fans. One of the highlights of the competition will be the gravity-defying performance of the New Zealand all-rounder’s fielding prowess.
The event happened as Pakistan was chasing New Zealand’s 321-run goal. Rizwan tried a cut shot off a short, wide ball from pacer Will O’Rourke in the tenth over. Phillips, who was positioned at backward point, jumped to his left and extended his arm to scoop the ball with one hand as it appeared to sprint for the boundary.

The 28-year-old is widely recognized as one of cricket’s most nimble fielders. He is a valuable member of the New Zealand team because of his ability to make amazing catches and save vital runs.
Earlier in the game, Glenn Phillips was brilliant with a bat.
In the meantime, Saud Shakeel had already been lost early by the Men in Green, who were chasing a target of 321 runs. Rizwan, who was supposed to lead the innings with Babar Azam, appeared to be in fine form before Phillips’ genius took him out. Pakistan was battling at 22/2 after his removal.
With centuries from Tom Latham (118 off 104) and Will Young (107 off 113), New Zealand had previously scored 320/5. Phillips was also instrumental with the bat, scoring a scorching 61 off 39 to give the innings the ideal conclusion. Pakistan’s bowlers, particularly Naseem Shah (2/63), attempted to hold the Kiwis in check, but Phillips and Latham’s late assault made sure the hosts reached a challenging total.
