Tamil Nadu legend and 1983 Indian World Cup winner Kris Srikkanth has questioned Ravichandran Ashwin’s bowling during the current Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Ashwin has only claimed five wickets at an economy of 9.3 and a dismal average of 44.6 in his first seven games of the season.
What’s Ashwin up to? “He has become totally defensive,” Srikkanth posted on his “Cheeky Cheeka” YouTube channel.
“Taking wickets is not his goal. The thought is, ‘Let me simply get through these four overs.’ He never went out to take wickets. He is only playing it safe.
In the match against the Mumbai Indians, which CSK lost by nine wickets at the Wankhede, he questioned Ashwin’s selection. As the impact player, Ashwin conceded just 25 runs in his four overs, but he was unable to take any wickets, which was crucial in the second innings.
“What made Ashwin the choice today? to win the game by taking two wickets. However, what did he do? In the powerplay, he bowled safely, Srikkanth remarked.
“CSK didn’t care about it at all. MI took singles off him since they were also sensible.
You must comprehend the IPL and match conditions in order to bowl appropriately.
Notably, since the start of the IPL 2025 season, Srikkanth has also questioned how CSK has used Ashwin and his bowling.
Don’t drop Ashwin, but prevent him from bowling during the powerplay. He can be useful from the seventh to the eighteenth over. They can easily bowl at least 10 overs with Jadeja and Noor Ahmad, Srikkanth has previously suggested.
