WCL 2024: Against the Australian Champions, Yuvraj Singh flashes back the years with a spectacular knock

On July 12, Yuvraj Singh, facing Australia Champions in the World Championship of Legends semifinal, looked like he was in the golden era.

Against the Australians, the former all-rounder for India struck havoc at number four in the batting order. At a strike rate of 210.71, he struck a blistering fifty-nine off just twenty-five balls, including five maximums and four boundaries, before Peter Siddle caught and bowled him.

During his playing career, the former southpaw has a lengthy history of competing against Australia, which is a dominant team. In the T20 World Cup 2007 match, he hit 70 off 30 against them, and his performance in the 2011 World Cup quarterfinals only strengthened his skills. With an undefeated 57 off 65 balls, the flashy batsman led India to victory in the thrilling match at Mohali. The hitter, who is now retired, gave hints of his best game during the WCL match that helped India advance to the championship.

India’s champions advance to the WCL 2024 finals

The WCL is a brand-new competition where past athletes from each nation compete for the T20 championship title. India and Pakistan advanced to the final, which is scheduled for July 13, after competing in the league stages against Australia, India, South Africa, England, Pakistan, and West Indies champions. Despite winning four of their five league games, Australia lost to India by 86 runs in the semifinals.

Speaking of the match, the Australia Champions chose to bowl first after winning the toss at the County Ground in Northampton. Australia was given a challenging aim of 255 after half-centuries from Robin Uthappa, Yuvraj, Yusuf Pathan, and Irfan Pathan. Australia only scored 168 runs in response, with Dhawal Kulkarni and Pawan Negi taking two wickets apiece.
