The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) parted ways with KL Rahul because the team’s management wasn’t pleased with his leadership. They spent a lot of money during the auction and acquired a number of high-profile players, including Mitchell Marsh and Rishabh Pant. But Rahul’s departure raised questions about the future captain. Prior to the auction, Nicholas Pooran was considered the favourite and was kept for a substantial INR 21 crore. Pant is the most likely candidate to accept the position following the auction.
In response, franchise co-owner Sanjiv Goenka stated that the LSG camp has four commanders.
He added that the squad was pleased with the auction’s outcome and that their objective was to develop a potent middle order. It’s interesting to note that the brand faced criticism for creating a whole Indian pace unit, but Goenka explained that this was a planned move.
Internally, we believe that our auction was a great success. We concentrated on having a really good middle order and ending. We have a really solid No. 3 to No. 8 lineup. Our second wish was to use explosive foreign batters and an all Indian pace assault rather than an international pace attack. In a video posted to Aakash Chopra’s YouTube channel, Goenka stated, “Now we have a combination of the two.”
“Rishabh, Pooran, Markram, and Mitch Marsh are the four leaders of our team. Thus, it develops into a very powerful leadership reservoir of knowledge, strategy, and thought. They are all capable of adopting a winning mindset. Rishabh is driven and hungry to succeed. Thus, a strong team has been assembled. We are content. Overall, there is a good balance and no team is playing 10 on 10,” he continued.
Notably, LSG paid INR 27 crore for Pant, while they also paid INR 9.75, INR 8, and INR 7.50 for Avesh Khan, Akash Deep, and David Miller, respectively.
