Rohit Sharma led from the front, scoring an incredible century (121* off 69) to help India win the series 3-0. After the game, Rohit Sharma only talked to JioCinema and Sports18.
India defeated Afghanistan in the third Twenty20 International (T20I) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on January 17, following a double Super Over.
Take-outs:
How well India was able to carry out their strategies in the 3-0 series victory
Previous to the series, we had numerous conversations. Since I hadn’t played in a year, I spoke with Rahul bhai (Dravid) about my ideas. I wasn’t playing, even though I was watching the games. We wanted to do something different and put some of the concepts I had learned into practice.
Someone wasn’t comfortable bowling in the power play, so we had to deploy them there. We wanted our bowlers to bowl differently. We asked anyone who felt uneasy to bowl at the death to do so.
Regarding how challenging it was to inspire himself and the group following the ODI World Cup final defeat
Nobody in this room, in my opinion, needs inspiration. The boys are all eager to make their mark. Since not every boy has the opportunity to play for India, I’m sure the lads in attendance want to make the most of it. It is evident that they are taking advantage of any opportunity that comes their way. From that angle, it makes my work and Rahul bhai’s much easier. All we have to do is give it clarity.
Regarding his actions after the World Cup final to regain his peak performance
For me, the biggest World Cup is the 50-over competition. It’s not that I don’t think the World Test Championship and the T20 World Cup are important events. However, we watched the 50-over World Cup growing up. It’s also a huge occasion when it happens in India. We made an effort. We were unable to win, unfortunately. Everyone on the team was depressed. All of the fans were probably depressed as well. However, we now have one more chance, so we’ll concentrate on seizing it to win the World Cup.
Regarding how India plans to handle the vast talent pool
You are testing out a lot of players, which makes it quite tough. Just like in the ODI World Cup, we tested out a lot of boys for the T20 league. They play, but some lads have to be left out when the announcement of the main squad is made. They find it unsatisfying as a result. Our role is to provide the team with clarity, though. We shouldn’t be wanting to accomplish one thing when another is taking place. They are aware of what is required of each individual in our pool of twenty to thirty players.
Although the T20 World Cup squad has not yet been finalized, you undoubtedly already know which eight or ten players will compete. Then, after assessing the circumstances at the destination, you choose the combination. We must select the team in accordance with the slow conditions in the West Indies. Again, Rahul bhai and I have made an effort to keep the team’s communication clear. I’ve learned one thing from being a captain: you can’t satisfy everyone. You must pay attention to the team’s needs.
In the third T20I, he performed switch hits and reverse sweeps.
I’ve been using the nets to practice it a lot. To create pressure on the bowlers, you need to play a few shots. You have to try something different when you can’t hit the ball straight and it’s whirling. For the past two years, I have been practicing sweeps and reverse sweeps. If we had played Test matches, you would have seen me use them once or twice. You are in charge of how you use the alternatives that are available to you. I decided to play with the spin instead than stepping out and hitting hard in front of the wicket because the ball was gripping and spinning today.
