The West Indies have picked a 14-man squad for the forthcoming T20I series against Pakistan, with three major alterations following a humiliating 5-0 defeat at the hands of Australia. Shimron Hetmyer, Brandon King, and Alzarri Joseph have been ruled out, allowing Alick Athanaze, Shamar Joseph, and Johnson Charles to return to the T20I lineup.
Despite a few individual standouts, the Caribbean team’s recent T20I series against Australia ended in disappointment. Throughout the five-match series, King and Hetmyer both scored more than 100 runs. However, both experienced side strains during the final game in Basseterre, making them unavailable for the Pakistan series, which begins July 31 in Florida, USA.
Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, who has been a part of the West Indies’ hectic international calendar, has been rested owing to workload management. The team is closely monitoring its fitness levels before of the ODI series against Pakistan, which begins on August 8.
Meanwhile, West Indies selectors have chosen a lineup that includes both young and experienced players. Shamar Joseph is expected to be a comparable substitute for Alzarri in the pace attack. The 24-year-old might give the Windies the X-factor they needed in Australia. Alick Athanaze is anticipated to replace Hetmyer in the middle order. The left-hander is hoping to secure a spot in the T20 World Cup next year.
Veteran opener Johnson Charles has returned to the squad and is slated to open the innings alongside captain Shai Hope. Furthermore, Keacy Carty, who was initially draughted in as cover for the Australia series, keeps his spot after delivering strong performances. Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd are anticipated to provide depth with both bat and ball, while spinners Akeal Hosein and Gudakesh Motie will play key roles in the bowling assault.
