The prolific all-rounder Glenn Phillips of the Gujarat Titans (GT) and New Zealand was asked what he would have done for a living if he hadn’t been a professional cricket player. According to the Kiwi, he would have been a pilot because flying was his love. “I would have loved to go to the mountains and do my hobbies without having to do any other work,” the top player added.
The New Zealand player was interviewed prior to the Gujarat Titans’ IPL 2025 opener against the Punjab Kings. The elite field player said he had a great enthusiasm for flying. If he hadn’t been a cricket player, he believed that all of his money would have gone towards piloting. According to Glenn, he adores all things aviation.
Indeed, it is a great passion of mine. To be fair, if I hadn’t been playing cricket and had been wealthy as a child, I probably would have become a pilot. Flying is something I adore. “I enjoy all the processes involved in being a pilot, including radio communications and plane handling,” Phillips said.
If I could go into the mountains without having to work, that would be great: Glenn Phillips
The reason Glenn Phillips loved flying was unknown to him. He believed that everyone had dreamed of flying at some point and didn’t think he was any different. The sensation of flight has always been a desire of people. The 28-year-old continued, “I suppose I’m just like all those people.”
Also, the South African-born man stated that he would prefer to go to the mountains and engage in his hobbies without having to worry about his job. Phillips stated that being a pilot would have been his dream job if he had to work.
“I suppose if I were to choose a hobby beyond cricket, I would like to be able to go into the mountains and be completely free from work obligations so that I could pursue all of my interests. However, in the event that there is a requirement for me to continue working, piloting would be my first choice,” Phillips said.
