The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Qualifier 2 match between the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad has been postponed owing to rain. The toss was held at the customary time (7 PM IST). Shreyas Iyer won the toss and had no reluctance in bowling first, citing the overcast circumstances and the pitch being covered on match day.
However, just as the players were making their way to the pitch for the start of the game, rain fell. However, the drizzle dissipated after about five minutes. Players resumed their preparations before taking the pitch, but rain fell again, and this time it wasn’t a drizzle. It was raining heavily, forcing spectators to seek shelter. Ground crew jumped back into action to quickly cover the surface.
For those unfamiliar, this game will only lose overs after 120 minutes of rain and accompanying clean-up. So, a 20-over contest can begin no later than 9:30 p.m. After the clock has passed the specified time, overs will be lost until 11:56 PM, the latest for a five-overs-a-side battle. Thus, if play does not begin by 11:56, the game will be called off without a result.
Around 30 minutes after the intended start time, cricket fans received some good news: the match was scheduled to begin at 8:25 PM. However, this update was cancelled due to the return of rain. It has been a tedious waiting game for supporters who want to witness two outstanding teams compete for a chance to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the summit showdown on June 3.
Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal has returned to PBKS’ playing XI for the important encounter.
He has played 12 matches and taken 14 wickets for an average of 25.29. On the other hand, Vijaykumar Vyshak has been nominated to the squad, with Harpreet Brar missing out. Prabhsimran Singh is among the Impact Players, and he is set to bat in the second innings. MI, on the other hand, replaced Richard Gleeson with Reece Topley.
