In Indian Premier League (IPL) history, two of the greatest batters are Virat Kohli and David Warner. Other batters will have a difficult time breaking their impressive records.
Ever since the IPL started, Virat Kohli has been a member of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Season after season, he produced runs for enjoyment, becoming the quintessential example of consistency over the years. In the meantime, David Warner played his final season with the Delhi Daredevils, which are now the Delhi Capitals, where he began his career. He became a legendary player and Sunrisers Hyderabad captain, though, in the midst of his two stints with Delhi.
Having scored 8,509 runs from 263 games at an average of 39.57 and a strike rate of 132.60, Kohli is the most prolific run scorer in IPL records. Having amassed 6,565 runs from 184 games at an average of 40.52 and a strike rate of 139.77, Warner ranks fourth on this list. Thus, the southpaw’s average and strike rate are higher than those of the former India captain. Warner has more IPL runs than any other foreign hitter.
With six half-centuries between them, Warner and Kohli share the league record. In IPL history, the former has amassed eight hundreds, more than any other cricketer, while the latter has four.
Warner is the only hitter to have won the Orange Cap three times in IPL history: in 2015, 2017, and 2019. A couple of times in 2016 and 2024, Kohli has taken home the prized hat. Nonetheless, he is genuinely vying for the Orange Cap in the current campaign. In consecutive seasons, Kohli might become the first Indian hitter to win the Orange Caps.
For the most runs scored in a certain IPL season, Kohli retains the record. In 16 innings of the 2016 Indian Premier League, he amassed an impossible 973 runs. Warner, on the other hand, has the fourth-highest season-long runs. This also happened in the 2016 Indian Premier League, when the Australian batsman scored 848 runs in 17 innings.
As captain of the IPL, Kohli has amassed the most runs. He was captain for 143 games and scored 4,994 runs. Warner, meanwhile, is captain of the IPL and has the fifth-most runs. 3356 runs were scored by him in 83 games as captain.
Warner is the top overseas hitter in IPL history, and Kohli is the best batter overall, according to statistics.
