Who Said What in Zimbabwe vs. India, Third Twenty20 International (2024)?

In Harare, India easily defeated Zimbabwe once more to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. Leading the way was Captain Shubman Gill, who scored 66 runs off 49 deliveries, followed closely by Ruturaj Gaikwad, who scored 49 off 28 balls. India scored 182 runs in the first innings because to the Pune-born cricketer’s explosive knock, which allowed them to maintain momentum after an outstanding performance in the second Twenty20 International.

Zimbabwe had trouble using the bat throughout the chase.

It was only a matter of time till they lost three quick wickets, Brian Bennett, Tadiwanashe Marumani, and Wessly Madhevere. Following the conclusion of the powerplay, Washington Sundar dismissed captain Sikandar Raza, who had been named Player of the Match in the opening Twenty20 International, for a run. He also sent Jonathan Campbell back to the pavilion for one run in the same over.

Dion Myers and Clive Madande appeared to be in fine form after that, but India ultimately prevailed by a margin of 23 runs. Washington Sundar was the night’s standout player with his three for fifteen. The Men in Blue now lead the series 2-1 as a result of their victory.

1. Acclaim and criticism

Netizens on X criticised Shubman Gill for being egotistical for keeping his place at the top of the order and sending centurion Abhishek down. Gill, though, had an incredible night in Harare and was crucial to India’s victory in the third Twenty20 International. His bowling adjustments were remarkable even in the second inning, which contributed to the team’s easy victory.

2. Regular Gaikwad

Gaikwad maintained his form in the third Twenty20 International after putting up an incredible display in the second. When the other middle-order batters were having trouble, Gaikwad’s lightning-fast 49 looked impressive. Considering India’s position at the moment, his knock was crucial.

3. The Avesh for India

In the past, a lot of criticism was directed towards star bowler Avesh Khan. But since IPL 2024, he’s been, to put it mildly, outstanding and has made great progress. Avesh was not selected for the Indian T20 World Cup squad, but he has been outstanding in the series against Zimbabwe, frequently making deliveries with the new ball.

Losing skipper Sikandar Raza said:

I think it’s the fielding again, we are proud of our fielding but the wheels came off today, we gave away 20 extra runs and we lost by 23 runs. We still have problems at the top but I have utmost faith in them that they will come good some time. We have tried 15 different partners in the last year or so, club has revived, it’s time that our players including myself take up the responsibility. You cannot fix a problem by creating another problem, we have picked 3 openers for a reason.

Winning skipper Shubman Gill said:

Definitely very good, it was a crucial game for us, the way we started with the bat and ball was good. The wicket was a bit double-paced, the odd ball was gripping and it was not hit the length balls. We know that if there is something in the wicket, it will be more with the new ball, as the ball gets old it’s a bit easier to score. Everyone is contributing and that’s a good sign.

POTM Washington Sundar said:

Feels amazing and everytime for the country, it feels amazing. It was definietely a better wicket, in the first two games there was more for the bowlers compared to this game, our batters batted well. It did put a lot of pressure on us and we wanted to execute our plays the best we can to restrict them. Hopefully, we get to see a lot of places in Zimbabwe and explore more, hopefully we can seal the series on Saturday.
