During the current Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL) season, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan made some intriguing predictions on who will win the Orange Cap, Purple Cap, and Most Valuable Player (MVP) titles.
All teams have played one game in the 18th edition of the IPL, which got off to a great start. It is anticipated that most teams will take some time to assess their strengths and weaknesses in this first season following the mega-auction. Some teams, including as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), have gotten off to a fast start, but others haven’t yet performed at their best.
Ashutosh Sharma’s incredible final act against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Ishan Kishan’s scorching century for the SRH against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) are just two of the notable individual performances that have already occurred. For their respective sides, Sai Kishore, Krunal Pandya, and Noor Ahmad have also made an impression with the ball.

Irfan Pathan selections for MVP, Purple Cap, and Orange Cap
In a video on his YouTube account, Pathan discussed the possible IPL Orange Cap winners and chose Virat Kohli (RCB), Shubman Gill (GT), and Yashasvi Jaiswal (RR). Without Kohli’s name, the Orange Cap race is incomplete, according to the cricket player-turned-expert. Notably, Gill and Kohli both took home the Orange Cap in the 2023 and 2024 Indian Premier Leagues.
For the IPL Purple Cap, Pathan backed three spinners—Varun Chakravarthy (KKR), Kuldeep Yadav (DC), and Noor Ahmad (GT). He added that he would have included Jasprit Bumrah in the list if the star pacer were fit to play all matches. For the unversed, India’s Test vice-captain is nursing a back injury and will miss the first few games for Mumbai Indians (MI).
As for the MVP award, Pathan included seam-bowling all-rounders Hardik Pandya (MI) and Andre Russell (KKR) in contention, alongside the spin-bowling all-rounder, Rashid Khan (GT).
