Devon Conway and Ravichandran Ashwin will not play in Monday, April 14’s IPL 2025 match between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
Coming into this match, CSK has just lost to the Kolkata Knight Riders in front of their home crowd at Chepauk. With fifty-nine balls remaining, the Knights emerged victorious by eight wickets. It is Monday, April 14, and the Men in Yellow would like to stop their five-game losing streak.
Lucknow, meanwhile, has won three straight games. They won by six wickets at home against the Gujarat Titans in their most recent match. A victory over the five-time winners would give Rishabh Pant and company the opportunity to move up to the top of the standings.
Toss Update
MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to field first. He opined that there could be dew in the second innings, and the surface would get better for batting. The former India captain also spoke about being consistent with the bat and having a positive mindset. Meanwhile, Pant also said that he would have bowled first had he won the toss. The wicketkeeper-batter said that his team would be wary not to give CSK an opening.
CSK leave out two veterans
At the toss, Dhoni stated that Ashwin and Conway would not be playing the game and that Jamie Overton and Shaik Rasheed have come into the side. Meanwhile, Pant announced that Mitchell Marsh, who missed the last game due to his daughter’s illness, is back in place of Himmat Singh.
What did the captains say?
MS Dhoni, CSK skipper, said:
We are blessed, we get good support wherever we go. ‘Thank you’, to all the fans. We want to bowl first, there’s chances of dew here. The wicket gets better in the second innings. It’s important to set the right temperament. We haven’t been consistent with our batting. With the ball we have strong back strong. It’s important to have a positive mindset, play those big shots. It’s a matter of time. We have a couple of changes. Overton and Rasheed come in for Ashwin and Conway.
Rishabh Pant, LSG skipper, said:
It’s just amazing. We would have bowled first. In Lucknow it’s slower in the first innings, gets better gradually. The only thing we talked about CSK is that we don’t want to give them an opening, just need to give our 100%. We want to go out there and play good cricket. Only one change – Marsh comes back in for Himmat Singh.
