Indian players wore black armbands when they took the field in the first semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 between Australia and India at the Dubai International Stadium. The renowned Indian left-arm spinner Padmakar Shivalkar, who died on March 3, 2025, was honored with this.
Shivalkar, one of the most respected players in Indian domestic cricket, passed away, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expressed their sorrow.
Shivalkar excelled in the Ranji Trophy, especially for Mumbai (previously Bombay), despite never having played international cricket.
Shivalkar played 124 first-class matches during his storied career, taking 589 wickets at an average of 19.69. His most noteworthy performance occurred during the Ranji Trophy final in 1972–73, when he helped Mumbai defeat Tamil Nadu with figures of 8 for 16 and 5 for 18.
