The 45th match of the IPL 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai would not feature two players from the Mumbai Indians (MI) and one from the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), who played for their respective teams in the previous game. Shardul Thakur from LSG and Mitchell Santner and Vignesh Puthur from MI will not be working.
Among the players MI identified as potential impact substitutions for the game were Jasprit Bumrah, Raj Bawa, Satyanarayana Raju, Robin Minz, and Reece Topley. However, LSG identified a number of possible impact substitutes, including David Miller, Shahbaz Ahmed, Himmat Singh, Yuvraj Chaudhary, and Akash Maharaj Singh.
Toss Update
LSG’s skipper, Rishabh Pant, won the toss and opted to bowl first on a sunny afternoon in Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium. MI’s skipper, Hardik Pandya, claimed that he wanted to bowl first too. However, he did not mind batting first under the scorching heat of Mumbai. While LSG had one change in their XI, Mumbai made two changes in their XI despite not losing their last 4 matches.
The Impact player is probably going to be Jasprit Bumrah after MI makes two substitutions.
After fully recuperating from the injury, Mayank Yadav will play for LSG in his first IPL 2025 match. Since he hasn’t been playing well lately, LSG benched Shardul Thakur to make room for him in the starting lineup. A potential impact substitute for the Lucknow-based team would be David Miller.
Similarly, MI brought in Corbin Bosch, a rookie, to replace Mitchell Santner. In the same way, MI captain Hardik revealed after the toss that Vignesh Puthur had made room for Karn Sharma in the line-up. Jasprit Bumrah might replace the five-time winners as an impact player.

We were planning to bowl, but looking at the heat – we don’t mind batting as well. It’s about adapting and not think too much about the heat.
