Due to his injury, the game’s star opener, Jos Buttler, had to be left out for the table-toppers. With just 35 runs scored in the first three games of the season, Buttler had a sluggish start to the season. Still, he recovered magnificently, hitting an undefeated 100* (58) in the chase against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
At the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh, Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) will square off in Match 27 of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024). After winning the toss, Sanju Samson, the captain of Rajasthan, decided to field first. Due to fitness concerns, Rajasthan had to make a few changes going into the game following their defeat at the hands of Gujarat Titans.
Rajasthan benched Ravichandran Ashwin because of a niggle and replaced Jos Buttler with Rovman Powell. The off-spinner’s season hasn’t been very noteworthy; in five games, the bowl has claimed just one wicket. But in the two innings where he scored 45 runs, he had a few impactful cameos at bat.
All-rounder Tanush Kotian of Mumbai, who will be playing in his first IPL, has taken Ashwin’s spot. Notably, after amassing 502 runs and taking 29 wickets in the Ranji Trophy 2023–24, the 25-year-old was named Player of the Tournament.
For Punjab, Liam Livingstone returns
Conversely, Shikhar Dhawan, Punjab’s normal captain, was forced to miss the match because of a niggle. With 152 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 125.61 and an average of 30.40, the southpaw is currently his team’s top run scorer. The all-around player for Vidarbha, Atharva Taide, will take his position in the opening match of the season.

However, Punjab’s great all-around player, Liam Livingstone, who missed their previous two games due to injury, is finally back with the team. In order to create room for Livingstone in the starting lineup, the PBKS management benched Sikandar Raza.
