On Thursday, May 8, Madhav Tiwari, an all-rounder with the Delhi Capitals (DC), will play in his first Indian Premier League (IPL) game
At the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. With a victory on Thursday, the Punjab Kings (PBKS), who are led by Axar Patel, might become the first team to earn a spot in the playoffs.
Axar mentioned Madhav was added in place of spin-bowling all-rounder Vipraj Nigam after Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bat first. Madhav is a 21-year-old seam bowler and all-rounder who excelled with the ball while playing for Madhya Pradesh’s Under-19 team. Although he excels at bowling, the youthful player is a formidable batsman.
Madhav was born in Madhya Pradesh’s Mauganj area on September 28, 2003. He bowls right-arm medium pace and bats right-handed. At the IPL 2025 mega-auction, the Capitals signed him for INR 40 lakh.
When Madhav was in his teens, his potential became apparent, and he played for the Under-15 and Under-18 teams of the Indore Division. He made a double century in a crucial match and guided the Under-19 team to a championship victory, demonstrating his outstanding leadership skills.
He finished with the most wickets in the 2021–2022 Senior Division MK Bhaya Trophy. Madhav has yet to make his domestic cricket debut for Madhya Pradesh.
In the Madhya Pradesh T20 League, he played for the Bhopal Leopards last season. In a match against Rewa Division, Madhav put up an impressive display by scoring a hat-trick. In a flashy 72, he took three wickets with a strike rate of 205.71. He also caught six receptions during the event, attracting attention with his excellent fielding abilities.
Speedsters are typically preferred over spinners in the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium. Madhav may have been selected for this match because of this, rather than Nigam, who has shown some impressive batsmanship this season.
