India vs England 1st ODI 2025: Match Overview
Team India (IND) are clashing with England (ENG) in the second ODI of the three-match series, at the Barabati Stadium, in Cuttack, on February 09, 2025.
Toss Update: England Opt to Bat First
When his team won the coin toss and decided to bat first, England captain Jos Buttler was blessed with good fortune. In the meantime, the hosts decided to alter their lineup by two players. Varun Chakravarthy, the mystery spinner, has been given a much-anticipated ODI debut by the Men in Blue.
Virat Kohli, the experienced and batting mainstay, also returns to the team. Regarding the second ODI, India will want to win and take an unstoppable lead in the series, while England will try to rally and tie the series. If it occurs, the team captained by Jos Buttler will remain competitive in the three-match ODI series. With a recent victory in Nagpur, the hosts are already 1-0 up in the series.
Virat Kohli comes back into playing XI, Jaiswal misses out
To the delight of supporters, Team India decided to bench their powerful opener Yashasvi Jaiswal in order to make room for former captain and batting mainstay Virat Kohli. Notably, Kohli had missed the opening ODI because of knee injury worries. The night prior to the first ODI, captain Rohit disclosed that he had suffered a swelling injury to his knee. But on the night before the Cuttack ODI. Kohli appeared to be playing well while batting in the nets.
Maiden ODI cap for Varun Chakravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav rested
The team lead by Rohit Sharma also made another adjustment in the meantime. Varun Chakravarthy, the mystery spinner and man of the moment, was finally draughted into the playing XI after torturing England’s hitters throughout the T20I series, and his much anticipated ODI debut was imminent. Ace leg spinner Kuldeep Yadav has been rested from his debut in anticipation of the series’ second ODI. The resilient off-spinner made history by being the second-oldest Indian to play in ODIs, following Farokh Engineer.
Rohit Sharma’s statement at the toss
“The performance in the first game was good. That’s what I adored. Even though it had been a while since they were on the pitch, the energy was excellent. Despite losing two wickets, it was an amazing sight to witness. Not to mention the contributions of Shubman and Axar, Shreyas takes satisfaction in that mindset and goal. Uncertain, black dirt pitch. I anticipate that you might play a little more slowly. Two changes: Virat replaces Jaiswal. Varun makes his debut since Kuldeep is resting,” Rohit stated at the toss.
England’s Playing XI and Jacob Bethell excluded
England, on the other hand, has changed their ODI lineup three times since announcing their playing XI the day before. Due to a severe hamstring injury, rising talent Jacob Bethell was forced to miss time. Consequently, Brydon Carse and Jofra Archer have been excluded from the Cuttack ODI. Mark Wood, Gus Atkinson, and Jamie Overton are the three new players England has added to the playing XI in place of Bethell and the two pacemen.
Jos Buttler, the visiting captain, won the toss and chose to bat first. Given that it is built on black soil, Rohit was a little uncertain about the pitch’s characteristics. He did, however, feel that the pitch would play more slowly as the game went on.
Jos Buttler’s statement at the toss
“Today, we will bat first.” Our goal is to play better for longer, keep moving forward, and, hopefully, have a successful day today. Looks like black, somewhat dry earth. A nice wicket, it seems. Buttler stated at the toss, “Mark Wood, Gus Atkinson, and Jamie Overton are the three changes that enter the XI.”
