The Mumbai Indians will not have captain Hardik Pandya for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season opening. Last season, he was fined ₹30 Lakh, suspended for a game, and found guilty of three sluggish over-rate infractions.
Since the punishment occurred following Mumbai’s final 2024 season match, his suspension will take effect during Sunday, March 23, the opening game of the 2025 season versus Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Chennai.
Hardik Pandya will have to miss the pivotal match, and MI will have to field a new captain in that match,
Even though the team usually pays the over-rate fine for the players. In Pandya’s absence, it is likely that either Suryakumar Yadav or Rohit Sharma will captain the team.
MI finished bottom in the points table and had one of their worst seasons in IPL history last year. It won’t be simple to recover and start the season strong because their captain was already injured in the opening match. The difficulties they will encounter this season will only be exacerbated by the fact that they must travel for every other game and are only playing two games in a row at home.
