On Tuesday, May 6, Rohit Sharma was removed for just seven runs during the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) match against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Wankhede Stadium. The side that wins will go to the top of the points table, making this matchup crucial in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Following Shubman Gill’s decision to field first after winning the toss, Mohammed Siraj removed Ryan Rickelton with the second ball of the innings, drawing the first blood. When Will Jacks took the pitch to bat at number three, he immediately made an impact.
Rohit Sharma attempted to break the shackles in the fourth over by hitting Arshad Khan over mid-off for a maximum.
Prasidh Krishna made a straightforward catch after the ball sailed up to mid-off after the former MI captain was unable to make a solid connection.
MI fans were upset to see the 37-year-old retire to the pavilion without putting on a performance, and there was a pin-drop silence at Wankhede Stadium. The camera went to Ritika Sajdeh, Rohit’s wife, who was seated in the spectators. As she observed her husband walking the long distance back to the pavilion, she appeared depressed.
Gujarat Titans had a poor outing in the field inside the powerplay as they dropped three catches. Sai Kishore, Sai Sudharsan, and Mohammed Siraj dropped regulation catches. Will Jacks got two reprieves, while Suryakumar Yadav had one.
Jacks and Suryakumar added 71 runs off 43 balls to put the hosts in a strong position. However, from 97/2 in the 11th over, the five-time champions slumped to 123/7 in the 17th. The onus will be on Corbin Bosch and Deepak Chahar to provide a strong finish. Meanwhile, Gujarat have been excellent with the ball and would want to restrict Mumbai to as low a total as possible. With the likes of Shubman, Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler being in magnificent form, the 2022 champions will be confident of bagging full points from this fixture.
