Rishabh Pant has been in spectacular form during the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. However, injuries have been a significant hindrance in his progress. On Day 1 of the third Test in London, he damaged his hand trying to stop a ball from Jasprit Bumrah. The 27-year-old was unable to keep wickets during the match, forcing Dhruv Jurel to bear the responsibility. However, Pant batted in both innings, scoring 74 and nine runs.
Rishabh Pant was playing a promising knock on Day 1 of the second Test at Old Trafford in Manchester, scoring 37 runs quickly.
However, in the final session, he attempted a daring reverse sweep against Chris Woakes, and the ball struck him directly on the right foot. The Delhi player was spotted limping in agony as the physio attempted to evaluate his condition. Pant was unable to continue batting because he was rushed out of the stadium in an ambulance, and Sai Sudharsan announced at the end of Day 1 that he had scans.
During the first session of Day 2, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) tweeted that Pant will be unavailable to keep wickets due to a right foot injury, and Jurel will take over the gloves. However, the apex body stated that Pant joined the team on Day 2 and will bat in the middle as needed.
“𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲: Rishabh Pant, who sustained an injury to his right foot on Day 1 of the Manchester Test, will not be performing wicket-keeping duties for the remainder of the match. Dhruv Jurel will assume the role of wicket-keeper. Despite his injury, Rishabh Pant has joined the team on Day 2 and will be available to bat as per team requirements,” BCCI said in its statement.
