At the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, the organizers gave a few seasoned cricketers a pleasant surprise by forcing them to take a journey down memory lane. The International Cricket Council’s social media team representatives arrived at the hotel that had been reserved by the participating teams. They went one by one to a list of seasoned cricket players and asked each one to sign a laminated picture of themselves from years ago.
The cricketers that made contact with them included Suzie Bates, Harmanpreet Kaur, Deandra Dottin, Smriti Mandhana, Marizanne Kapp, Sophie Ecclestone, Laura Wolvaardt, and Nat Sciver-Brunt. When they saw their younger selves, the aforementioned group of individuals, who were unaware that the photos were actually of them from a very long time ago, when they had just entered the international scene, had a wide range of differing reactions. A few of these included feelings of extreme humiliation, shock, surprise, and nostalgia in spades.

Signing a picture of herself with her “favourite cricketer,” Virat Kohli, made Wolvaardt very happy.
The South Africa Women’s captain, Wolvaardt, received a photo of herself with star Indian batsman Virat Kohli. On February 1, 2020, she shared the exact same photo on Instagram. She referred to Kohli as her “favourite cricketer” when signing the photo.
