South Africa’s captain, Aiden Markram, was one of the team’s standout players throughout the World Cup. South Africa had a successful ODI World Cup 2023 campaign, winning seven of their nine league games en route to the semi-finals. En route to the knockout stages, their only losses came from the Netherlands and India. At Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, Temba Bavuma’s team lost to eventual champions Australia in a low-scoring semifinal match. The team will play India at home in a three-match ODI series, with the first match taking place in Johannesburg on Sunday, December 17. The right-handed hitter claimed that majority of his teammates had to recover from the devastating World Cup loss because of the demanding cricket schedule.
“Leaving a World Cup in that manner is never pleasant. According to India Today, Aiden Markram stated, “I thought we had something really good going, and that does filter into this team – from the good side of things.”
Most guys, in my opinion, are over it. We are pretty much past that and looking forward to the series because that’s the nature of cricket these days; the schedule is so frantic you are practically compelled to move on as quickly as possible,” the 29-year-old continued.
India and South Africa just engaged in a Twenty20 International series in the Rainbow Nation. Before the home team prevailed by five wickets (DLS method) in a rain-shortened match in Gqeberha, the first game in Durban washed out. India won the third and final match in Johannesburg by a commanding 106-run margin.
With both teams naming a number of new players in their lineups, the ODI series will be exciting to watch because it will offer fans a peek of what could be in store for them in the future. The four players in the Indian team who have not yet made their ODI debuts will be led by KL Rahul.
