Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri offered his thoughts on the altercation between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir that took place on the field during the LSG-RCB match in Lucknow.
After RCB had won the game, tensions erupted, and Kohli and Gambhir were overheard mouthing some expletives that received negative attention.
Members of both teams intervened to break up the increasing argument by separating the two. While the pair has received criticism for their antics on the field from both fans and other cricket players, former India cricketer and head coach, Ravi Shastri, has urged them to put the past behind them.
“I believe the realization will come in a day or two. They’ll also see that this could have been handled much more effectively. They both represent the same state and have enough cricket under their belts, according to Shastri on Star Sports.
“Gautam has won two World Cups, and Virat is a legend. They are both from Delhi. I believe that sitting them down and ending it would be the best course of action. Finally,” he continued.
I’m worried you guys went too far. Vijay Shastri
Notably, 100% of Kohli and Gambhir’s match fees were penalized for breaking the Code of Conduct. Naveen-ul-Haq, a pacer for LSG who also took part in the altercation, was penalized 50% of his match earnings. In addition, Shastri said that the BCCI needed to step in and issue warnings to the players involved since the unpleasant on-field incidents shouldn’t be condoned.
“I believe that someone from the governing council or the BCCI should take the lead here and call all parties concerned directly. And regardless of what has been said or the past, intervene immediately and issue a harsh warning, added Shastri, according to ESPNcricinfo.
Such behavior on live television, especially following a game, won’t be accepted. However, there is a line. And I fear that you people went too far. Therefore, you guys must say that you should sort it out right away because it won’t be accepted in the future, he continued.
