The 2024 Women’s Premier League (WPL) journey of Gujarat Giants batter Harleen Deol has abruptly ended due to an injury she suffered early in the competition. Deol has been out of action for the duration of the campaign after suffering a knee injury during the Giants’ third group-stage encounter at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru against UP Warriorz.
In the opening over of Warriorz’s innings, she was positioned at sweeper cover and attempted to move to her right to collect a ball; however, she grabbed her left knee in pain. Following that, the 25-year-old hobbled off the pitch and hasn’t appeared in games since.
Deol encountered difficulties while competing in the WPL 2024, despite her best attempts. She managed just 8 runs in the Gujarat Giants’ opening game while batting at No. 3. In the second game, she advanced as the opener and scored 22 runs. But she dropped back to No. 3 in the game against Warriorz, scoring just 18 runs.
The successor to Harleen Deol is Bharti Fulmali.
A batter named Bharti Fulmali has been called up to the Giants to fill in for Harleen Deol. In addition to playing domestic cricket for Vidarbha, Fulmali, 29, has previously represented India in two Twenty20 Internationals in 2019. Prior to the WPL, she played for the Trailblazers in the Women’s T20 Challenge.
As the third player to miss a substantial chunk of the competition, Deol’s absence made the Giants’ injury problems worse. They lost fast bowler Kashvee Gautam, who was uncapped, before the competition started, while Australian Lauren Cheatle had to withdraw due to a medical procedure. Furthermore, Sneh Rana, their vice captain, has missed the last two games due to injury.
In addition, the Giants, who are now at the bottom of the table, had a difficult tournament, opening four games due to losses. Nevertheless, in their most recent match in Delhi’s Arun Jaitely Stadium, they prevailed by 19 runs to earn their first win against RCB. They play the Mumbai Indians, the reigning champions, at the same location on March 9.
