WPL 2025: Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Mumbai Indians Women, Match 7- Who Said What?

At the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, the Mumbai Indians Women (MI-W) gave Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women (RCB-W) their first defeat of the 2025 WPL.

It appeared that RCB-W would struggle to put up a respectable score for the visitors after dropping a few early wickets in the first innings. However, after scoring a respectable 167 on board, Ellyse Perry, the top player for the hosts, was able to give the team a boost.

When the home team was down to just 29 runs early in the match, Smriti Mandhana, the captain of the Royal Bengaluru Women, had to walk back to the pavilion. However, it was Mumbai Women’s Day, and they did a good job with the bat and the ball.

Talking Points from Match 7 of WPL 2025:

1. Georgia Wareham comes in for RCB-W

Ultimately, when it appeared that the hosts would have a hard time defending the total, their legspinner came through and claimed two crucial wickets. She stepped in when the crew needed to make things challenging for the guests. Wareham got three wickets in the match, dismissing Sajeevan Sajana, Amelia Kerr, and Harmanpreet Kaur, who was playing well.

2. Ellyse Perry strikes for RCB

When the squad lost early wickets, it was Ellyse Perry who was on the field. Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women scored 167 runs thanks to her explosive 81-run performance off just 43 balls.

3. Amanjot Kaur’s dominant knock

Mumbai Indians’ Amanjot Kaur showed why she was on the field when the visitors lost their skipper’s wicket. Kaur put up a great show against RCB-W and gave the fans a night full of entertainment. The all-rounder struck when the team needed her the most and because of her two sixes in the 19th and last over MI-W beat the hosts.

Who Said What?

Losing skipper, Smriti Mandhana

Can’t say one turning point but really proud of the way the girls fought back, we have 2 days and we will think about what went wrong. The first time we batted first in the tournament so we won’t be really critical about things today. For us it is important to stay positive in the next 2 days.

Ball was coming on pretty well, the outfield is definitely quicker and it had a little bit for the spinners as well. We started well in the powerplay and they started well in the powerplay, but after Hayley got out we thought we had a chance and made it tough in the middle overs and we always felt that we were in the game.

Winning Skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur

We wanted to play good cricket and we knew that crowd is going to pay a big role, so we wanted to stay together. We wanted to chase becuase of the dew. They all know their roles very well and they know when they are going to bowl depending on the match-ups. I just told her (Amanjot) that that was the last over (18th over) for the main bowler and there are no experienced bowlers after that. I knew she is a good player, but does not have that much experience in these situations, so credit to her.

Player of the Match, Amanjot Kaur

Feels really happy and tough to express this feeling in words. I knew that if an offspinner comes to bowl, I can back my strengths. We (Kanika and I) play for the same domestic side and I knew that I had to stay till the end and make sure that 19th over goes big because of my positive match-up. My role with the ball is to bowl stump-to-stump and bowl the variations. Blessed and grateful.
