Shubman Gill is the leading run scorer for the Gujarat Titans in the ongoing IPL 2023, with 339 runs at an average of 37.66 and a strike rate of 140. The opener has brought his international cricket form into the T20 tournament. Recently, during Gujarat’s fourth match of the tournament against the Punjab Kings, former India batsman Virender Sehwag criticized Gill for his strike rate during the middle overs.
During the match, the opener scored 67 runs off 49 balls before being dismissed, with his team needing six runs off four deliveries in the final over. Sehwag believed that the youngster should have attacked more in the midsection of the field and not so deeply. Recently, the 23-year-old echoed KL Rahul’s sentiments and stated that the strike rate is overrated because a batter should be able to perform in all conditions and situations.
“I believe that strike rate is important in T20. The greater your score, the greater the cushion your bowlers will have. Even if you’re aiming for a higher total, the strike rate remains crucial. However, particularly this year, low-scoring games have made chases difficult. As a batter, you should be able to play in all situations and conditions, so strike rate is essential but somewhat overrated,” he was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.
The first three months of 2023 have been a fantasy for Gill, who has scored centuries in all three formats of the game. After the conclusion of the IPL, the batsman from Punjab will represent India in the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia.

Shubman Gill, the Indian opener, has scored two centuries in his last four Tests and is eager to play in the major game. Gill, referring to the summit contest, emphasized the significance of maintaining peak performance throughout the five-day game. He went on to say that the team’s loss to New Zealand in the first WTC competition is inspiring them to win the forthcoming final.
“I believe that the next five days will be extremely crucial for us. We have worked incredibly hard as a team over the past few years, having lost the last WTC final against New Zealand in Southampton, and this is a huge source of motivation for us. I am very excited to travel to England and compete against A
