Puneri Bappa defeated Raigad Royals by 99 runs in the sixth match of the Maharashtra Premier League (MPL) 2025 on Saturday, June 7, at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
Raigad captain Rushabh Rathod won the toss and chose to field first. Puneri Bappa lost Murtaza Trunkwala in the third over, but
Yash Nahar and Rushikesh Sonawane formed an incredible partnership for the second wicket.
The two right-handed bats scored 128 runs off 80 balls, laying a good platform for Puneri Bappa.
In the 16th over, Sonawane was removed for 58 off 40 balls. Raigad made a tremendous comeback, dismissing Nahar in the following over after he had hit 82 runs off 52 balls, including eight fours and four sixes. Sahil Autade was dismissed, but wicketkeeper-batsman Suraj Shinde stole the show in the dying overs.
While Puneri Bappa were aiming for a total of 180-190, Shinde’s late blitzkrieg propelled them over the 200-run line. The 28-year-old hit one four and five sixes during his undefeated innings of 40 runs off 12 balls. He scored runs at an incredible strike rate of 333.33. The Yash Kshirsagar-led team concluded on 202/4 after 20 overs.
In reply, Raigad lost opener Harsh Mogaveera in the first over. Siddhesh Veer smashed a flurry of boundaries, but Sachin Bhosale dismissed Digvijay Patil and Rugved More in his fourth over. In the following over, Siddhesh Veer left, becoming Nikit Dhumal’s first victim of the night.
Raigad were facing defeat at the end of the powerplay after losing four wickets for 46 runs. Nikit Dhumal took two wickets in the seventh over, reducing Raigad to 51/6. Wickets continued to fall, but Rathod batted valiantly, scoring 46 off 21 balls to help his team reach three figures. In the end, Raigad were bowled out for 103 in 13.1 overs, with Dhumal taking 5/39 in his four overs.
