Star cricketer Yashasvi Jaiswal is believed to have been hospitalised with acute gastroenteritis on Tuesday, December 16, only hours after the 2025 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match between Mumbai and Rajasthan. The Super League match was held at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
The left-handed batter experienced stomach discomfort during the game, which worsened thereafter. Jaiswal was then transported to the Aditya Birla Hospital in Pimpri-Chinchwad, around 13 km from the venue. A report from the hospital stated that the cricketer had been diagnosed with severe gastroenteritis.
The 23-year-old is alleged to have received IV medicines and had ultrasound and CT tests. According to The Indian Express, he was instructed to get enough rest and to continue taking his medication until told otherwise.
Coming into the match, Mumbai successfully chased down Rajasthan’s 217-run total, winning by three wickets and 11 deliveries. Sarfaraz Khan (73 off 22) was named Player of the Match after scoring six fours and seven sixes.
Yashasvi Jaiswal could only score 15 out of 16. He was caught and bowled by Ashok Sharma on the final delivery of the fourth over of the chase.3
Ajinkya Rahane stood tall right till the end to guide Mumbai over the line with a brisk, unbeaten 41-ball 72. Manav Suthar’s 3-23 in his four-over quota was not enough for Rajasthan, as they ended up losing all three of their Super League matches. Despite the win, Mumbai could not qualify for the final after having a net run-rate (NRR) relatively inferior to those of Haryana and Hyderabad.
Prior to the three SMAT 2025 matches which Jaiswal featured in, he was a part of India’s ODI XI in their three-match series against South Africa. Jaiswal registered his maiden ODI ton in the series-deciding clash on December 6 in Visakhapatnam. He is expected to be in action for the upcoming three 50-over clashes against New Zealand at home.
