Following her brilliant performance against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Yashasvi Jaiswal of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) received a ton of accolades from former India and CSK batsman Suresh Raina. On Thursday, May 11, the flashy Royals opener crushed an unbeaten 98 off 47 balls to defeat Kolkata.
The hitter quickly got going from the opening over and quickly scored the fastest IPL half-century. Against Nitish Rana, Yashasvi Jaiswal specifically targeted 26 runs off the first over, which is also the second-most expensive first over in the top-tier competition. With a fantastic strike rate of 208.51, he hit 12 boundaries and five sixes in his entire inning.
Impressed by his brilliant performance, former India batsman Raina made a significant disclosure when he said that, if he had been the team selector, Jaiswal would have been picked in India’s ODI World Cup roster. He continued by saying that the young southpaw’s batting style is similar to that of former India explosive hitter Virender Sehwag.
“He is in a really fresh mind, so if I were the Indian selection, I would have signed him for the World Cup today itself. He reminds me of Virender Sehwag. After the spectacular knock, Raina stated on JioCinema, “I’m sure Rohit Sharma will be watching this because he’ll be looking for hitters like him for the World Cup.
Jaiswal has amassed 575 runs in only 12 games at an astounding average of 52.27, adding one century and four fifty-sevens to his total. Notably, Team India has yet to reveal its lineup for the massive ODI match that will take place in India in October.
Following his remarkable campaign in the 16th edition, it remains to be seen if the youthful phenom secures his spot in the setup for the main event. Rajasthan, meanwhile, will be aiming to secure their spot in the playoffs after their victory over KKR propelled them to third place in the IPL points table.
