Questions have been raised over the performances of a number of players following the Indian team’s poor showing in the just finished Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25. Following captain Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, a young player, has also been invited to report to the Mumbai squad.
Yashasvi Jaiswal will now train with the state squad on Wednesday at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).
The statement came as the Board of Control for Cricket in India, or BCCI, discussed how players must play more domestic cricket in order to keep up their form on the biggest stage.
The fact that Mumbai will play Jammu and Kashmir at home starting on January 23 in their next Ranji Trophy match is noteworthy. “He has communicated his availability for the upcoming Ranji Trophy round to Mumbai coach Omkar Salvi.” The Mumbai team would be chosen by the selection committee in the next few days, the Indian Express said, quoting an MCA official.
India’s next match is against England.
Following India’s appalling performance in the BGT 2024–25, the team will now concentrate on the restricted formats. It is noteworthy that the Indian team won the opening Test in Perth to start the BGT. The team did not win the series, though, as they suffered defeats in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney.
They will now play a white-ball series against England after returning to India. There will be three ODIs and five T20I matches between the two teams. The five Twenty20 Internationals will take place at Kolkata, Chennai, Rajkot, Pune, and Mumbai on January 22, 25, 28, 31, and February 2, respectively.
Additionally, following the T20I series, India and England will face off in three ODI matches in Nagpur, Cuttack, and Ahmedabad on February 6, 9, and 12, respectively. The Men in Blue are hoping for a better series after their crushing defeat in Australia.
