Guests Bangladesh entered the match with a more uniform starting lineup, and the opening Twenty20 International of the series was their first appearance in the format since the T20 World Cup 2024. India made a few debuts of their own, at a venue that was also making its mark in the international arena.
India sent Bangladesh in to bat first without any second thought. After Litton Das had hit a boundary off the previous ball, Arshdeep Singh removed him from the game with a strike in the opening over. After hitting Hardik Pandya for an outrageous maximum in the previous over, Parvez Hossain Emon—who had come in for Tanzid Hasan from Bangladesh’s last XI they fielded—fell to Arshdeep on the first ball of his second over.
The nimble Before Varun Chakravarthy, who was playing his first Twenty20 international since November 2021, came back forcefully to eliminate a struggling Towhid Hridoy, Mayank Yadav began his international debut with a maiden. Bangladesh was having difficulty by the midway point. Soon after, Najmul Hossain Shanto, the skipper, collapsed. Despite being the innings’ anchor, Mehidy Hasan Miraz received no middle-of-the-inning help. In the last over of his spell, Hardik Pandya finally got in on the action and finished with a wicket.
Thanks to the methodical Indian attack, Mehidy was never really able to escape and was left stuck on 35*. With one ball remaining, the man who began the damage concluded it by taking his third wicket of the innings and bowling Bangladesh out for 127. With just 14 wickets conceded in 3.5 overs, India’s most economical bowler throughout the T20 World Cup 2024 was the joint top wicket-taker.
India’s response was amusing, to put it mildly. Both Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson began their innings with a barrage of boundaries, demonstrating their parity as bats. Unfortunately, a bad ruling on the run-count resulted in Abhishek’s innings being cut short and his removal. When Suryakumar Yadav entered, he immediately began with his trademark fireworks. Even though he left before the powerplay ended, he had already hit 29 off 14, and after six overs, India was comfortably positioned at 71/2.
After Samson was out, Hardik Pandya entered the bat and started off with a boundary first ball. The brilliant all-rounder looked eager to get things over with, racing onto 39 off only 16 deliveries as a youthful Indian team utterly destroyed a Bangladeshi side. Taskin Ahmed was the most expensive bowler for the visitors that evening, as Hardik took him to pieces.

India defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets with 49 deliveries remaining to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series thanks to a masterful performance by Nitish Kumar Reddy, who spent 15 deliveries out of the middle for his 16 runs.

India beat Bangladesh by 7 wickets in the first T20i match. Bangladesh could not put up any resistance in front of India. After batting, Bangladesh is also in a bad state in bowling. How long will Mustafiz play BCB? The second match is on 9th October.#INDvBAN#INDvsBAN pic.twitter.com/T9hivdzLyE
