In 2025, Yuzvendra Chahal, the great leg-spinner for India, will return to England to play for Northamptonshire in the County Championship and One-Day Cup. On Thursday, March 13, the English county announced that Chahal would be available for their Division Two campaign, which begins on June 22 with a matchup at home against Middlesex.
With Punjab Kings playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Chahal is probably going to miss the first seven games of the County Championship, which starts on April 4.
Before switching to red-ball cricket in England, Yuzvendra Chahal will enjoy a month-long respite while the IPL, which runs from March 22 to May 25, gets underway.
His stint coincides with India’s Test series against England, which starts on June 20 and consists of five matches.
After an incredible 2024 campaign, the 33-year-old is making a comeback to the sidelines. In his first season in the County Championship, the Haryana cricketer claimed 19 wickets, including a career-high 9-99 against Derbyshire. With a five-wicket haul, Chahal defeated Kent in the One-Day Cup. In the upcoming season, the spinner hopes to carry on in the same manner.
I’m excited to return because I had a great time here the previous season. I’m excited to be a part of that dressing room again since it has some amazing people. Hopefully, we can duplicate the excellent cricket we played in the latter part of the season and win some games,” Chahal said.
One of the top leg-spinners is coming back: Darren Lehmann
The return to Northamptonshire of one of the world’s top leg-spinners excites me greatly. In addition to being a true gentleman who adores the game, he contributes essential experience. Head coach Darren Lehmann stated, “It will be great for us to have him available from mid-June until the end of the season.”
Chahal, the most expensive spinner in the history of the IPL, was acquired by the Punjab Kings for INR 18 crore, and he will also be a member of the team in 2025. On March 25, Punjab will play their season-opening match against the Gujarat Titans at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
