Concerns about Gautam Gambhir’s current style of coaching the Indian squad were voiced by former speedster Zaheer Khan. Ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025, the India head coach has been experimenting with the lineup in the current ODI series against England, and the former bowler is not impressed. Zaheer has cautioned his former teammate from causing fears inside the team.
Zaheer’s remarks follow Shreyas Iyer‘s admission that he was left out of the starting lineup for the first ODI against England in Nagpur. After hearing the Mumbai batter’s statement, both fans and analysts were baffled as to why a player who had amassed over 500 runs in the 2023 ODI World Cup was left out of the original plans.
You’ve stated that you must be adaptable. The first two will be present, but the others will be adaptable. However, there are also some restrictions that apply within that flexibility. There are rules that you must adhere to. There is some communication that must take place in order to streamline the process. Otherwise, you are fostering insecurity, which will eventually return to haunt you. That is the last thing you want to happen.
You must therefore be ready to handle the circumstance. Zaheer Khan
Recency bias is particularly strong at the moment, which is why I stated that. If you compare Gautam Gambhir’s strategy with Rahul Dravid’s, the situation has become dynamic. It can be described as good, bad, or ugly. It can also be described as how we adapt. All members of this system are involved, whether they are selectors, players, top management, or think tanks. They must measure it, and for the wheel to turn correctly, the entire system must be simplified,” he said.
Last year, Gambhir’s maiden ODI series as India’s head coach ended in defeat to Sri Lanka. He has, however, led the Men in Blue to an insurmountable 2-0 lead in the ODI series against England. On Wednesday, February 12, the third and final ODI will take place in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
