Zimbabwe and Namibia have secured their places in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier, which will be held in Nepal early next year. Ten teams will battle for four berths in the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup in England in June and July.
Zimbabwe and Namibia have never qualified for a women’s World Cup in any format in history.
They join Bangladesh, Ireland, Thailand, Nepal, and the United States, who have already advanced to the global qualification event. The remaining three teams will come from the other regional qualifiers: two from Europe and one from East Asia-Pacific.
Zimbabwe qualified by defeating Uganda in the first semi-final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Region Division One Qualifier on Thursday in Windhoek. Namibia defeated Tanzania in the second semi-final to secure their place. They will compete in the final of the Africa regional qualification on September 6.
The T20 World Cup qualifiers include ten teams divided into two groups of five apiece. The top six teams advance to the Super Six stage, which precedes the final. The event starts on January 12 and ends on February 2. The matches will take place in Kathmandu’s Lower Mulpani Cricket Stadium and Upper Mulpani Cricket Stadium.
The T20 World Cup in 2026 will feature 12 teams for the first time in its history, up from 10 in 2024. New Zealand is the defending winners, defeating South Africa in the final in Dubai last year.
