In the current Champions Trophy 2025, India (IND) and Pakistan (PAK), two bitter rivals, faced off in a high-stakes match. It is noteworthy that on Sunday, February 23, both teams played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai.
Captain of the Green Shirts after winning the toss. To bat first, Mohammad Rizwan made the decision. The Men in Blue began a little cautiously, but their openers, Imam ul-Haq and Babar Azama, gave the neighboring country two early shocks. With their crucial 104-run partnership for the third wicket, Rizwan and Saud Shakeel were able to steady the ship after that. Shakeel lost out on a half-century (46) by just four runs, but the former scored a fifty (62). Pakistan then lost all of its momentum and quickly dropped a few of wickets.
However, in the latter stages of Pakistan’s innings, spin all-rounder Khushdil Shah gave the team the boost they needed with his rapid 38-run effort. As a consequence, the Champions Trophy co-hosts were able to score a respectably low 241 runs. All-rounder Hardik Pandya took two wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav grabbed three, highlighting India’s bowling effort. In a joint bowling effort, Harshit, Axar, and Jadeja each took one wicket jointly.
Up until the fourth over, India’s response to the run chase was strong. As the high point of his brief stint at the crease, captain Rohit Sharma looked in excellent form as he pulled a Haris Rauf bouncer for a delicious six. Shaheen Afridi, a pacer, cleaned up the hitman with a deadly inswinging yorker. Shubman Gill, the opener, stitched a 69-run stand for the second wicket, though, with his 46-run effort.
However, by masterfully leading the run chase, Virat Kohli, the man of the moment, once again displayed his class. He regained his batting form and continued his run chase masterclass, while Shreyas Iyer, at the other end, attempted to pace the innings with a few strokes in the middle after milking runs for a spell in response to the situation’s demands. However, Imam-ul-Haq made a spectacular catch off Khushdil Shah’s ball shortly after the batter reached his fifty (56 runs off 67 balls), which led to his death. With a partnership of 114 runs, the two helped Team India gain control of the game.
Despite Shaheen Afridi’s subsequent strike of removing Hardik Pandya, it was too late to salvage the game. India eventually defeated Pakistan by six wickets thanks to a generous unbroken century from Virat Kohli (100* off 111 balls). The Men in Blue won the Champions Trophy 2025 for the second time as a consequence.
