That's a wrap! Zimbabwe takes a 1-0 lead in the series. The third T20I between these sides will be played on Tuesday, the 25th of February. The game will begin at 11.30 am GMT. Do join us for the early build up as well. Until then, take care, and cheers!
Sikandar Raza, the skipper of Zimbabwe, says that they had a slight hiccup in the middle overs but they finished well. Adds that it was a great team effort. Ends by saying that Tony Munyonga is a great talent and he is happy for him.
Paul Stirling, the skipper of Ireland says that he thinks they were on top at the start but Tony Munyonga played a great knock. Adds that Harry Tector is a great player and Craig Young is a great talent as well.
Tony Munyonga is the Player of the Match. He says that the plan was simple to keep on batting and get their team over the line. Adds that this knock is very important to him and he will look to keep on growing. Ends by saying that watching a lot of cricket helped him and he is happy with the win.
Presentations coming up...
Earlier in the game, Zimbabwe's bowlers dominated Ireland, limiting them to 138 for 8. Trevor Gwandu and Sikandar Raza combined for five wickets, with Ngarava removing the key player Paul Stirling early. Lorcan Tucker and Harry Tector put up a brief resistance during the powerplay, but Raza dismissed Tector, increasing the pressure on Tucker. Eventually, Gwandu took Tucker's wicket as well, ending his innings at 46 runs.
Craig Young was brilliant with the ball and he was well supported by the others. The spell though, by Josh Little probably cost them the game. He was a little too expensive on a slow track and they needed him to be at his best. A good effort though by the Irish but they would feel they left a few runs with the bat towards the end and that’s what cost them the game.
What an absolute low scoring thriller! It was Zimbabwe in the end who came out on top! Ireland, though, did really well to make a fight off a score, that we felt was under par. Ireland got three wickets early but then Burl and Raza put up a good stand and got the chase back on track. Both though fell in quick succession but Tony Munyonga batted brilliantly with the lower order to take his side over the line.
