At the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, the home team, the Mumbai Indians Women (MUM-W), defeated the Delhi Capitals Women (DC-W) in the Women’s Premier League 2025 final. Mumbai won the competition for the second time in three seasons with this victory.
Delhi’s start couldn’t have been better. Marizanne Kapp disqualified Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia for low scores. In a single stretch, the seasoned South African completed her four-over requirement. After seven overs, Mumbai had just 22 runs on the board when Kapp finished her session. After the first six overs, their tally of 20 runs was the fourth-lowest powerplay in WPL history.
Only one boundary has been hit by Harmanpreet Kaur in her first fifteen deliveries. But she and Nat Sciver-Brunt did a fantastic job leading Mumbai’s comeback. However, the latter was dismissed in the over after Harmanpreet reached her third half-century of the season because she was never able to settle into the fence. Two wickets were taken in the 16th over of the first inning. Mumbai finished with 149 points.
Nat Sciver-Brunt and Shabnim Ismail, respectively, gave Delhi two significant blows during the run-chase when their captain and Shafali Verma left for poor scores. Even though they had outscored Mumbai by a large margin in the powerplay, their attempts to advance were severely hampered by their frequent wicket losses.
Following an outstanding display with the ball, Kapp also performed well with the bat. The way she was staring at the crease gave the impression that Delhi would cross the line. But everything went wrong for her side after the South African all-rounder left for 40 (26). Niki Prasad finished undefeated on 25 off 23 deliveries because he simply couldn’t get going. Mumbai won by a final margin of eight runs.
