There are two sides to all sport, including cricket. Even while the winning team is ecstatic, the losers are frequently left out of the spotlight, particularly when it’s a tournament final. After the Mumbai Indians Women defeated the Delhi Capitals Women to win the WPL 2025 championship, similar scenes took place at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium on Saturday, March 15.
Marizanne Kapp of the DC Women was in tears of shock when her team lost the grand finale by a just eight runs. As colleagues Sarah Bryce and Jemimah Rodrigues attempted to comfort the South African all-rounder, Kapp was crying and covering her face with her palms, unable to process the close loss. Fans have already liked and commented on a video of the event that has been making the rounds on social media.

got so far with a lot of effort, ft. Marizanne Kapp
In the Brabourne summit match, DC got off to a fast start after bowling first. Kapp was the ball hero, taking a few wickets during the powerplay to immediately put pressure on MI. The Cape Province native bowled all four overs in a row and finished her spell with impressive figures of 4-0-11-2. But at the conclusion of 20 overs, Mumbai was down 149-7 thanks to a brilliant partnership between Harmanpreet Kaur (66 off 44) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (30 off 28).
Delhi’s reply to the chase had a terrible start as they lost the in-form openers, Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning, in the first three overs. Neither Annabel Sutherland nor Jess Jonassen were able to get underway. Kapp took the field at this point and formed a significant partnership with Jemimah. When the latter left, though, things took a turn for the worst.
Kapp attempted to keep DC in the hunt with her counterattacking 40 from 26 balls, but Delhi lost by a few runs in the last over due to a lack of support at the other end. Delhi had lost the final three times in a row while Lanning was captain.
