Sunil Gavaskar, a former captain of India, thinks Jasprit Bumrah services for the Mumbai Indians in the 2017 season will be sorely missed. The 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will begin on March 31. Bumrah, a five-time champion with the Mumbai Indians, will miss the entire campaign owing to a lingering back issue. Since September of last year, he hasn’t played in any major tournaments of competitive cricket, such the Asia Cup or the ICC T20 World Cup.
Both the Indian squad and the Mumbai Indians benefit from having Jasprit Bumrah.
He has taken 145 wickets from 120 games, making him MI’s second-highest wicket-taker. The 29-year-old is now just behind Lasith Malinga in the standings after surpassing spin veteran Harbhajan Singh.
Although the Rohit Sharma-led squad will undoubtedly miss him, Gavaskar noted that they still have the talent to win the championship a record sixth time. After their disappointing performance the previous year, he thought this would be their time to redeem themselves.
“They must put last season’s events behind them and have faith in their ability to succeed this season. Jasprit Bumrah will be missed. Yet, they have a squad that is capable of repeating as champions. They have something to prove after their performance from the previous year, so I definitely see them in the top three “Gavaskar was asked by Star Sports about the likelihood that Rohit and company would win the IPL in 2023.
The IPL 2023 is scheduled to start on March 31 with Gujarat Titans (GT), the defending champions, hosting Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Ahmedabad’s illustrious Narendra Modi Stadium. MI, who had a dismal season in 2022, will play Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their season opener on April 2 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in an attempt to win a record-breaking sixth championship.
