Royal Challengers Bangalore’s IPL 2023 campaign came to a disappointing conclusion after a six-wicket loss to the Gujarat Titans in their final match. As a result, they failed to qualify for the semifinals. The Faf du Plessis-led team needed to win their final game at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, but despite a magnificent hundred from Virat Kohli, they lost the match. Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra, commenting on another disappointing performance by the three-time runners-up, stated that the team will never be able to win by relying on 4-5 major names and must instead invest in Indian players.
“Kohli, Faf, Maxwell, and Siraj did really well. However, you cannot win tournaments with only 4–5 competitors.
If you do not invest in Indian players over the next two seasons, it will continue to be “E Saala Cup Rehnede,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
The former India opener went on to say that some RCB supporters are toxic, but the majority of their fans are outstanding.
“RCB has one of the finest fan bases. There are some toxic followers on Twitter and Instagram, but the vast majority of their followers are fantastic. Their fanbase is phenomenal, which may explain why they are so well-known despite not having won a trophy,” he added.
RCB failed to qualify for the quarterfinals for four consecutive years.
In the RCB vs. GT match, after being placed in to bat first, RCB scored 197/5 in their allotted 20 overs, led by Virat Kohli’s magnificent century (101* off 61). GT chased down the target in 19.1 overs thanks to Shubman Gill’s remarkable hundred (104* off 52) and won the match by six wickets.
RCB concluded the league campaign in sixth place with 14 points and seven victories from 14 matches. Notably, they failed to qualify for the quarterfinals for the first time since 2019 after finishing in the top four for three consecutive seasons from 2020 to 2022.
