In 2023, the India cricket team enjoyed success in the One-Day Internationals (ODIs) format, winning six of the seven bilateral series that took place. Even in the ODI World Cup 2023, Rohit Sharma’s team had an almost perfect run, winning 10 straight matches before losing to Australia in the crucial championship game.
In the 35 ODI matches that the Men in Blue played in 2023, they won 27 of them, lost seven, and one ended in a tie. For the majority of the players, success on the field also translated into financial success, as a number of them were able to earn sizeable match fees through the 50-over format.
Notably, each time an ODI is played, the BCCI rewards the players who are in the playing XI with INR 6 lakh. After accounting for all the facts, wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who has played 30 matches and earned INR 1.80 crore in match fees, is the biggest earner from the 50-over format. With 49 wickets in 2023, Yadav concluded as the greatest wicket-taker in ODIs, capping an incredible year for him with the ball as well.
After playing 29 games and earning INR 1.74 crore, opening batsman Shubman Gill, who also ended as the top run scorer in ODIs in 2023 (1584 runs), finished in second place.
In third place are Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
With 27 matches played and INR 1.62 crore earned amongst them, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul occupy the third rank. Fast bowler Mohammed Siraj is ranked fifth with INR 1.50 crore from 25 matches, while all-arounder Ravindra Jadeja is ranked fourth with INR 1.56 crore from 26 games. With 44 scalps in the 50-over format in 2023, Siraj is also the second-highest wicket-taker behind Mohammed Shami, who claimed 43 from 19 matches.
