After placing fourth in the first WPL season in 2023, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) made the decision to address their bowling unit issues when the second season’s auctions were held in December. Sports18 WPL specialist Abhinav Mukund, from JioCinema, discussed the potential advantages of these adjustments as well as what supporters might anticipate from the squad this time around. Take a peek:
Abhinav Mukund on the RCB bowling unit:
“Observe the difference from the previous year; Megan Schutt and Danni Wyatt make way for a team that appears to be much more balanced than it was previously.” They now have Ekta Bisht and Simran Bahadur, so I suppose they are pretty much set in terms of their bowling strategy. Bowling was an issue, which they resolved as soon as they arrived at the auction. Due to her exceptional bowling abilities, Georgia Wareham was the most underappreciated selection of the auction.
Regarding the young Indian players in the RCB lineup, Abhinav Mukund said, “They’re really good.” Richa Ghosh is a really gifted person. I appreciate how this RCB team looks, but their best players still need to deliver. Of course, Smriti Mandhana, Shreyanka Patil, and Kanika Ahuja have been playing nicely. Ellyse Perry and Smriti both have performances to give.
RCB head coach Luke Williams on the team’s selection process: “We are really happy with the variety of the bowlers we have picked up. Our strategy was around adding to our bowling stocks.” It was part of the plan to include seasoned players like Kate Cross and Ekta Bisht. We felt that having some players with international experience was crucial because the WPL is a highly competitive competition.
