Update 8:55 pm Local (10:55 am GMT) - Bad news, folks! The match has been called off. The rain has not cleared in time for the Aussie batters to walk out. That means each team gets 1 point from this clash. So, the multi-format series stands at 7-5 in favour of Australia Women. India Women would need to win both the T20Is now to win the series. The next T20I will be on 9th October at 6:10 pm Local (8:10 am GMT). Do join us then. Goodbye for now!
Australia Women did not have the best of starts as the Indian openers scored sprightly. It was Ashleigh Gardner who came into the attack and removed both of them in the same over. At one stage India Women were 55-3 and Australia Women were in a very good position but they let it slip in the middle phase and India Women took perfect advantage of it. Ashleigh Gardner was the pick of the bowlers as she took 2 wickets while Georgia Wareham and Sophie Molineux took a wicket each. Meg Lanning used as many as 8 bowlers but not everyone found success. Now, it will be interesting to see what the target will be for the hosts, how many overs they get and more importantly if we get any more action at all. Stay with us to find out. We will bring you updates as and when we get them.
What an unfortunate end to India Women's innings. They had a good platform and would have wanted to accelerate in the last few overs. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma started well at the top and gave them a great start. But they fell in the same over and Harmanpreet Kaur too fell early. But Jemimah Rodrigues held the innings together and expressed herself really well with the bat. She was well supported by Yastika Bhatia for a while before she fell. Richa Ghosh and Jemimah Rodrigues were batting really well and they would have wanted to tee off in the last few overs but the rain gods had different plans.
Update 8:27 pm Local (10:27 am GMT) - Well, we have some official news for you. It has now been decided that India Women's innings has been done and Australia Women would walk to bat if and when the game resumes. A reminder that play needs to start by 9:06 pm Local for there to be at least a 5-over game.
Update 8:05 pm Local (10:05 am GMT) - The drizzle continues but it is not very heavy at the moment. The players are still waiting at the sidelines in the hope of a swift resumption.
Update 7:49 pm Local (9:49 am GMT) - The rain has arrived here at the Carrara Oval and the umpires have asked the players to walk back. The rain has got even heavier and the covers are out on the pitch. Stay tuned for further updates. This may not be a long delay as the rain seems to have eased out a bit.
