...Presentation coming up...
Earlier in the day, after electing to bowl, Australia kept picking wickets at regular intervals but it was Malan's outstanding knock which took England close to 300 which we felt was a competitive score then. However, it was easily knocked off by the Aussies courtesy some excellent batting by Head, Smith and Warner.
The English bowlers will be disappointed with the way they bowled, yes the wicket was flat but they would have loved to make Australia work hard for their runs. There were far too many boundary balls first up and they were quite inconsistent with their lines and lengths. Once the two openers fell though, the likes of Willey, Stone and Dawson bowled quite well but the game was gone by then.
A dominating win then for the Aussies to take a 1-0 lead in this series. Have to say, the victory was set by the openers who were on the charge right from the word go. They added 147 in no time with both scoring half tons. That more or less turned the tide completely into the favor of the Aussies. Then there was another handy stand between Warner and Smith before Warner fell 14 short of a ton. Australia then kept losing wickets at regular intervals but the run chase was always under their control. Once the two openers fell, Smith took the onus onto himself, stayed till the end and took his side over the line.
