Right then, that will be it from this contest. We hope you enjoyed the coverage. Do join in for the second T20I of the Ashes series on Thursday (January 23rd) from the Manuka Oval in Canberra. That game will start at 8.15 am GMT. But as you know, you can always join early for all the build-up. Until then, take care, and cheers!
Tahlia McGrath, the Australia Women's skipper comes for a chat. Says that she is very happy. Adds that a lot happened over the last 24 hours but the girls stepped up and took up different roles and showed great depth. Mentions that they see it as an opportunity to give chances to young guns. Lauds the young Georgia Voll, Beth Mooney, and their leggies who did a fine job. Ends by adding that she is looking forward to the next game at Manuka Oval.
Heather Knight, the England Women skipper is up for a chat. She praises Beth Mooney for her outstanding innings. Adds that they gave too many runs with the ball. 20-30 runs less would have given them a chance. Credits Sophia Dunkley who gave them a shot and made them feel like they were in it. Ends by sharing that losing key wickets at the wrong time costed them the game.
BETH MOONEY IS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH FOR HER BRILLIANT KNOCK. She says that they were very confident with the score of 198. Adds that their way at the backend of their batting but the bowlers did an excellent job of containing the England batters, who batted exceptionally well. Shares that the wicket was flat and didn’t offer much assistance and she had to work her way through the innings, but she got a lot of help along the way. Lauds Georgia Voll for her impressive debut game.
Time for post-match presentations...
Australia Women started well with the ball, removing both the openers cheaply before Sophia Dunkley smashed the bowling all-round the park through the middle phase but the home side bounced back strongly. The spin duo of Alana King and Georgia Wareham did most of the damage, sharing five wickets between them while the rest took one apiece to round off a collective bowling effort. Earlier today, Australia Women batted first and posted a formidable score of 198/7 with a sublime 75 from Beth Mooney and handy scores from Georgia Voll, Phoebe Litchfield, and Tahlia McGrath. Sophie Ecclestone and Lauren Bell were impressive with the ball for England Women. The visitors might have lost the series but they will play for pride and look to put in better performances in upcoming games while Australia Women will hope to remain dominant and make a clean sweep in the series.
A clinical all-round effort from the Australia Women helps them clinch this game by 57 runs as they retain the all-format Ashes series with a couple of T20Is and a Test to go. Chasing a mammoth score of 199 for the win, England Women lost their openers cheaply but Sophia Dunkley came out all guns blazing and blasted an attacking 59 off 30 but found little support from the other batters. The wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals and they were dismissed for 141 runs in 16 overs. England Women are yet to win a game in this series and have conceded the Ashes to the home side with Australia Women taking a 8-0 lead.
