The Women’s T20 League 2025 progresses swiftly in its Bengaluru leg and the second match of this phase, and overall, Match number 8 features two power-packed sides as Delhi goes up against UP in their reverse fixture. Round 1 was dominated by Delhi and now Deepti Sharma’s troops look forward to redemption. It’s been a decent season so far for the two-time runners-up with a couple of wins and a defeat which keeps them in the top half of the points table. Meg Lanning's army is coming off a commanding triumph over UP with an all-round performance. Although there needs some screw tightening in the bowling unit, in the Powerplay, and in the death overs with them having a bowling attack that can dent any opposition. Shikha Pandey, Marizanne Kapp, and Annabel Sutherland are the pace spearheads with the latter two also making their presence in the batting, tuning in fine as reliable all-rounders. Meanwhile, Jess Jonassen has shouldered the spin department nicely. It’s just about containing runs at crucial junctures. For starters, Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma are always a threatening opening duo and they have demonstrated the same so far. Contrasting batting styles but equally effective. And with the top four doing all the heavy lifting so far, they are looking ever dangerous. Two in two - but this time in the victory column, that's what UP desperately seeks to inscribe in their record. With their campaign teetering after consecutive losses, the squad knows the importance of turning things around quickly in this compact eight-game league format. The batting shows promise, particularly through Kiran Navgire's explosive starts, but converting these foundations into match-winning totals remains elusive. The overseas firepower of Grace Harris and Tahlia McGrath has yet to ignite in the middle order, a factor that could prove pivotal in reversing their fortunes. At the same time, Sophie Ecclestone and Deepti Sharma have shown glimpses of their bowling prowess, the unit as a whole needs to find better ways to break partnerships and control the flow of runs at crucial moments. There’s a lot to be pondered upon for UP, and a win in this fixture will certainly lift up their hopes and inject that much-needed momentum. Also, it remains to be seen what challenges the Chinnaswamy throw. Naturally a very high-scoring ground, one could expect more or less the same and both teams have got enough in their artillery to make up for the conditions. Will Deepti Sharma’s troops avenge their defeat, or can the Lanning army of Delhi do the double over UP? Another mouth-watering clash awaits!
