Brisbane Heat beat Hobart Hurricanes by 31 runs

Earlier in the day, Chris Lynn and Max Bryant smashed the Hurricanes bowlers all over the park as they scored the highest total in their BBL history.
Coming to the Brisbane Heat's bowling, they used 7 bowlers, trying to mix it up and not let the batters settle. Zahir Khan and Ben Laughlin were the pick of the bowlers, giving away 33 runs off their 4 overs, taking a wicket each. Cutting provided the important wicket of skipper McDermott which started the collapse for the Hurricanes.
A convincing win for the visitors here and they would be hoping to build from here on in. Right from the start of the second innings, it looked like the Hobart Hurricanes were never in the game. Each of the top five batters got off to starts but none of them could cross even the 30-run mark. When chasing a total of above 200, at least one player has to play a big innings and no one was able to provide that boost for the hosts. After getting off to a good start, the Hurricanes collapsed from 79/1 to 118/5. That was enough for the Brisbane Heat to control the game completely from there onward.
MAN OF THE MATCH, CHRIS LYNN terms it a polished effort. He would have liked a bigger win but says that they will take it at this stage. Adds that Max Bryant was in great form and it was a good surface to bat on. Rues some of the dropped catches. Tells that the dressing room was in good spirits in spite of the losses and it's all about learning from the mistakes. Wants to try and win back-to-back wins and peak at the right time.

Full ball way outside off, Faulkner looks to jam it out but misses. And that will be it as Brisbane Heat beat Hobart Hurricanes by 31 runs.

OUT! TIMBER! Meredith departs now. A full toss on the off pole line, at 140.9 kph. Meredith looks to play at it but completely misses the ball. It goes on to hit the off pole and the Hurricanes are 9 down now. However, the match will not end as James Faulkner is coming out to face the final ball of the innings, despite suffering from a calf injury.

DROPPED! Would have been a wonder catch for Peirson. Length ball outside off, Qais goes hard at it but gets a faint edge on it. The keeper dives full stretch to his right but puts the catch down.

OUT! CAUGHT! An entertaining knock by Rose comes to an end. A length ball outside off, Rose looks to smash this one towards the cover region. He gets more height on it than distance. Josh Lalor from sweeper cover gets under it and takes a good catch. The Hurricanes are 8 down now and Meredith, is probably the last man in for the Hurricanes as James Faulkner had gone off injured during their bowling innings.

No ball! Length ball on middle and off, Rose pulls this one towards backward square leg but does so uppishly. Renshaw is standing there just inside the fence. He takes a couple of steps back and jumps to take a superb one-handed catch. However, the umpire wants to check whether it is a legal delivery and the replays show that the bowler has just about overstepped. Prestwidge will have to re-bowl and it will be a Free Hit.
Caught! But is it a no ball? The third umpire is troubled. On the line is Prestwidge, nothing behind. It's a no ball and that great catch by Renshaw won't count. Free Hit coming up...

OUT! CAUGHT! Six and then Bailey has now holed out! The final nail in the coffin for the Hurricanes it seems. A touch fuller one on off, Bailey this time looks to clear long on but does not get the proper connection on it. Laughlin in the deep runs to his left and takes the catch. He will be mightily relieved having dropped him once previously. The chances of the Hurricanes winning this match have gone from slim to almost impossible.

SIX! THAT IS HUGE! Bailey has hit that one out of the park! Good length ball on middle and off, Bailey has just smashed that over the mid-wicket region for one of the biggest maximums so far in the BBL.
George Bailey is running out of partners and won't get surprised if he takes the charge from hereon. Nothing to lose for Our George. 79 needed off 30 balls. It's not impossible as we have seen in the past but the way the Hurricanes have gone so far, it doesn't look possible either.

SIX! Bryant could have done better there. Short in length around off, Miller pulls it across the line and it flies towards deep mid-wicket. Bryant settles underneath it to take the catch but then doesn't realize that he is too close to the boundary line. Ends up moving back and stepping on the rope. He did try to toss it up but seems to be too late. The fielder ain't sure and the umpires take it upstairs. Soft signal is given as out. But the replays find that Bryant is late in releasing the ball and his legs were in contact with the rope. 17 runs off the over, a huge one.
OUT! NO! IT'S A SIX! Wait, the fielder ain't too sure. Bryant is shaking his head. The umpires have gone upstairs and the soft signal is out. However, the replays find that Max has stepped on the fence and it has been given as a maximum.

Starts with a length ball on off, Short plays this one towards the cover-point region and the Hurricanes are underway straightaway.
Back for the run chase. Brisbane Heat are in a huddle near the boundary line. The Hurricanes openers, D'Arcy Short and Caleb Jewell, make their way out to the middle as well. Short will be on strike facing Josh Lalor who will open the bowling for the Brisbane Heat.
So, where does this lead us now? The Hurricanes will have to come out all guns blazing and they will be hoping that Short, Miller and Bailey can do something similar to what Lynn and Bryant did. Do join us in a short while for the run chase!
The Hurricanes' decision to bowl first backfired miserably. Their bowlers were thrashed all over the park, with no one having an economy rate of less than 9.5. Faulkner had to go off injured with a calf strain and that did not help their cause at all. It looked like they would eventually pull Brisbane's score below 200 but Cutting scored 14 runs off the last over, including 11 in the last 3 balls, giving complete momentum to the Brisbane Heat.
The innings started well for the Hurricanes as Tom Banton departed early but then Lynn and Bryant started to fire on all cylinders. They managed a 95-run stand between them, boosting the score to 110 inside 11 overs. Renshaw and Cutting later came in and played hard-hitting cameos to send the score above the 200-run mark.
The Heat have set a huge total on the board, the biggest that they have achieved in their BBL history and will be confident to win this game. This looks like a good wicket to bat on but with such a huge total to defend, they should be backing themselves. Chris Lynn also reflects on the same in his quick interview. He is hoping for a turnaround in their fortunes.

Brisbane Heat (Playing XI) - Tom Banton, Max Bryant, Chris Lynn (C), Matt Renshaw, Jack Prestwidge (in for Sam Heazlett), Ben Cutting, Jimmy Peirson (WK), Mark Steketee, Josh Lalor, Ben Laughlin, Zahir Khan.
Hobart Hurricanes (UNCHANGED PLAYING XI) - D'Arcy Short, Caleb Jewell, Simon Milenko, Ben McDermott (C/WK), David Miller, George Bailey, James Faulkner, Nathan Ellis, Clive Rose, Qais Ahmad and Riley Meredith.
Toss - Hobart Hurricanes have won the bat flip and they have elected to bowl first.
It is time for Match 21 to get underway as the Hobart Hurricanes take on Brisbane Heat at the Bellerive Oval. Both these teams are not where they want to be on the points table. Brisbane Heat have taken just 2 points off the 4 games that they have played while the Hobart Hurricanes taking 4 points in the same amount of games as well. The Brisbane Heat were defeated comfortably in their last match against the Perth Scorchers as they were dismissed for a score under 110 chasing 150 on a slow track. The top order did not fire and today they will need the likes of Tom Banton, Chris Lynn and Ben Cutting to play well. The Hobart Hurricanes played a rain-curtailed game last time out and they were defeated comfortably by the Melbourne Stars side. They will be counting on the likes of David Miller, George Bailey and James Faulkner to bail them out today. Bat flip and team updates coming up.
